I Need Your Support to WALK IN HER SHOES

Did you know the average Canadian walks only 2,000 steps a day?

Yet each day women and girls in the developing world often walk more than 8,000 steps (~six kilometres) for the basics like food, water or firewood. This leaves little time to go to school or earn money to support their families.

I want to support women to have what I am privileged to have here in Canada. That’s why I signed up for the WALK IN HER SHOES challenge. And I need your help.

WALK IN HER SHOES is a CARE Canada campaign in which I will walk 8,000 steps on International Women's Day, to simulate what a woman or girl experiences daily in the developing world.

Funds we raise will support CARE’s Tukuy Yanapana (‘we all collaborate’) project in Bolivia, which aims to improve the profitability and competitiveness of family farms and small enterprises and to increase incomes for women, men and youth. Our goal is to raise a minimum of $10,000, which will empower women and girls to lift themselves and their families out of poverty. CARE has experts in the region right now educating, supporting and doing amazing work.

Please help by either:

–      making a tax-deductible contribution to our efforts

–      join our I Am Powerful team on 8 March 2014, set your own fund raising challenge, and walk with us

Women and girls have the power to change their world. We have the power to help them do it.

Thank you,

Audrey

About CARE: Founded in 1945, CARE is a leading international humanitarian organization fighting global poverty. In over 80 countries, CARE works with the poorest communities to improve basic health and education, enhance rural livelihoods and food security, increase access to clean water and sanitation, expand economic opportunity, help vulnerable people adapt to climate change and provide life saving assistance during emergencies. CARE places special focus on working alongside women and girls living in poverty because, equipped with the proper resources, women and girls have the power to help whole families and entire communities escape poverty.

CARE Canada is committed to keeping our administrative costs as low as possible. During the last five years (2007 to 2012) these costs have averaged six per cent of our total expenditures.
