A future without poverty is within walking distance.

Women and girls in developing countries walk an average of six kilometers every day to collect essentials such as water and food for their families, leaving little time to go to school or earn money.

CARE is working to change that. And you can too.

CARE’s Walk In Her Shoes challenge is a global movement that gives you an opportunity to show your solidarity with women and girls in developing countries – all while raising critical funds to help them lift themselves out of poverty.

The challenge is simple – but it has a huge impact:

  1. Sign up now to Walk In Her Shoes - you can join a team, start a team or walk on your own.
  2. Using our online fundraising tools, emails and sample letters, reach out to your networks to donate to your walk campaign. Every dollar makes a difference for women and girls.
  3. Attend the annual event at the Calgary Zoo on Sunday, March 10 from noon to 3 pm, in celebration of International Women’s Day March 8, to take 5,000 steps together in solidarity with women and girls.

About the event

On March 10, hundreds of Calgarians will complete a 5,000 step walking challenge to raise funds and awareness for CARE's work in the developing world at the Calgary Zoo. Walkers will collect passport stamps along the path and completed entries will be entered to win one of several draws.  The walk ends in a celebration with refreshments and family-fun activities at the ENMAX Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo.

Registration is only $25 per family and includes Calgary Zoo admission fees.

Registration is online only and is not available at the door.

Register before February 26th for an early bird prize! Register now!
